Indian Ocean Plans Update
(Updated 2/20/96)

  1. The earliest that I7S line can be occupied is early 1997. This will make the line non-synoptic with the remainder of the WHP survey. Plans are to close the line to Madagascar.

  2. The revised dates for the complete occupation of I6 are February 7 - March 20, 1996. The cruise will commence and finish at Durban.

  3. Although a proposal to carry out I5C was turned down, Park still wishes to occupy the whole of I5 in 1998. If approved, this will come under the heading of a CLIVAR cruise.

  4. XBT deployments are expected to continue along IX3 and perhaps IX10 if funding can be made available. At present France is collaborating with Australia and the U.S. to provide coverage.
