Patrick CALDWELL

National Oceanographic Data Center

I am presently overlapping with the WOCE Program in two areas: sea level and shipboard ADCP. The University of Hawaii Sea Level Center (UHSLC) serves as the WOCE 'fast delivery' sea level DAC. I am not directly involved in daily functions, yet assist in maintaining contacts with the data originators, updating metadata, and providing services such as data, metadata, and inventory dissemination. My primary duty is the management of the Joint Archive for Sea Level (JASL), which is a collaboration between the National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC) and the UHSLC. The JASL maintains the research quality, delayed-mode sea level data set for the World Data Center-A. I have been directly involved in the implementation and operation of the NODC Shipboard ADCP Center (NODC-SAC). The NODC-SAC mostly manages data from US national vessels, but has also been involved in several international projects, such as TOGA COARE and WOCE. The NODC-SAC collaborates with the Japan Oceanographic Data Center (JODC) as the WOCE DAC for shipboard ADCP. In early March 1996, two JODC personnel visited the NODC-SAC at the University of Hawaii for fine-tuning plans for tracking, reviewing, exchanging, and distributing WOCE data sets.
