• What are the processes and their time scales that maintain the oxygen minimum zone?
  
• Rates of formation and spreading of Subtropical Underwaters
  
• Distributions, spreading rates and connections of SAMW/AAIW/NPIW, conversion to Tropical Intermediate Water
  
• Rates of subduction into the subtropical gyres

The research objectives are presently being addressed using CFC and hydrographic data collected during the WOCE Pacific, and supplemented with historical data.
