COMPARISON OF CABLE VOLTAGE TIME SERIES WITH OTHER N. PACIFIC DATA

I am planning to compare general circulation models and TOPEX/POSEIDON altimetric data with time series of large scale motionally induced voltages observed on a growing network of several long submarine cables in the North Pacific. These cables are being monitored by researchers at the Tokyo University Earthquake Research Institute, AT&T Bell Laboratories, and WHOI (groups of H. Utada, L. J. Lanzerotti and A. D. Chave). So far, their oceanographic interpretation has been hampered by the lack of numerical models and independent transport estimates. Analysis concentrating on the Hawaii-California cable has, however, demonstrated the presence of oceanographic signals by comparison with pressure, wind stress and wind stress curl data. I am interested in attending the meeting in order to learn what other people are doing and to find out about other models and data sets to compare.
