Many of Japanese WOCE seawater samples for 14C analyses have been stripped of CO2 using vacuum lines in Meteorological Research Institute (MRI) and Japan Marine Science and Technology Center (JAMSTEC), and these CO2 samples were sent to AMS facilities in the Institute of Geological & Nuclear Sciences Ltd., New Zealand, and Centre for Isotope Research, University of Groningen, the Netherlands. The comparison experiment for AMS 14C analysis of total dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) in seawater is now on going among these organizations and National Ocean Science AMS facility at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in order to measure the traceability among their measurements using the seawater samples collected from 310 dbar and 2550 dbar at 25°N, 137°E during WHP P24 cruise of JMA's R/V Ryofu-maru in November 1995.

The results of the comparison experiment and preliminary results of the distributions of 14C and total DIC from WHP P9 (July-August 1994) between Japan and Papua New Guinea in the Philippine Sea will be presented.
