To date my work has focused on the large-scale Pacific circulation through the studies of basin-wide data sets: I have worked on the 10°N (P3), TEW (12°-15°S), 30°S (P6) and 150°E (P10) hydrographic lines. Using a mixture of water mass analysis and inverse modelling, I have attempted to quantify the circulation and deduce the climatological heat and freshwater fluxes.

I am interested in how one best uses mooring, ADCP and altimeter data to get better circulation estimates and mass budgets. The issue of variability (high and low frequency) and its impacts on the uncertainty in the net section fluxes is also of interest. An unresolved issue for the South Pacific estimates is the effect of the leakage of water from the Pacific to Indian Ocean.

Lastly, the combination of the WOCE lines to describe and tease out the distribution and features of the Pacific water masses is of great interest. In particular I am interested in the connection between the water mass and flow structure in the equatorial Pacific, especially at intermediate depths.
