I plan to attend the WOCE Pacific Workshop, August 19-23, 1996. I plan to stay at the Hyatt Newporter Hotel and request that a room be

Working group topic of interest from items 1 to 4:
1. Heat and freshwater transports, surface fluxes: estimates for the
best-sampled sections and for the rest of the Pacific.
2. General ocean circulation, including western boundary currents, deep
passage and deep western boundary current flows, intermediate and deep
circulation in the tropics, eddy energy distributions.
3. Ventilation and mixing of the Pacific water masses.
4. Upper ocean circulation and heat content and their variability,
relation to forcing; air-sea fluxes and Ekman layers.
Working group topic of interest from items 5 to 7:
5. Climatology; synthesis of all data to produce an atlas of the present
and historical state of the Pacific Ocean, including establishing
absolute velocities for the mean circulation from direct current
measurements. Data uniformity/mapping for specific types of data.
6. Data synthesis by assimilation: aspects of dynamically consistent
combinations of data and models.
7. Model-data and model-model comparisons: how well do they match, by what
criteria are they to be judged, including which statistics should be compared.
